Nurses Week 2006 – Always There, Ready to Care
May, 2006 found Frankford Nurses being celebrated for the exceptional care they provide. The Clinical Excellence Luncheon
was held on May 9, 2006. The Clinical Excellence Award winners from each unit were recognized their for commitment to providing
patients with the very best nursing care, as well as their dedication to promoting the well being of patients and families
at Frankford Hospital.

The Southeaster Pennsylvania Chapter (SePA) of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses held an Evening Half-Day Education
Program at Frankford Torresdale on November 17. Speakers included Rose Shaffer, RN, MSN, ACNP-CS, CCRN, President of SePA
(Interventional vs. Medical Management of Coronary Artery Disease), Lorraine Micheletti , MA, RN, CCRN (Bloodless Medicine/Surgery)
and Barbara Pope, MSN, RN, CCRN, CCNS (Providing Safe Passage for the Mechanically Ventilated Patient.) Judy Verger, RN, MSN,
CCRN, CRNP, Chairperson of AACN's Certification Corporation spoke regardin nursing certification. 54 nurses from the region
attended this program.

Bea Leyden, RN, BSN, CCRN was appointed to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses' (AACN) Fall Board Advisory Team. Ms. Leyden is the Magnet
Program Coordinator in the Department of Nursing.

Rachel Derr, RNC, MSN recently received her Masters Degree in Nursing from University of Phoenix. She works part time in the Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit at Torresdale Campus. She is also currently an instructor at LaSalle University.

Bruce Alan Boxer PhD, RN, CEN, a staff nurse in the Emergency Room at Frankford Hospital,Torresdale Campus, recently received his Doctor of Philosophy
in Health Studies and Public Health degree from Temple University. Dr. Boxer’s dissertation topic was “The Relationship between
Patient and Provider Expectations of Asthma Management and their Effect on Asthma Control.”

Safety Stars Program Inspires Patient Safety Initiatives By Kristin Rothwell, associate editor
A multidisciplinary team of nurses, physicians, allied health care staff and others at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, are participating on the hospitalÆs Safety Star Committee to improve patient safety.

Michael Beshel, RN, BSN, CEN, CCRN, CNA, BC, who is the Director of Nursing Operations at Frankford Hospitals (Bucks, Frankford and Torresdale Campuses), recently received
his Nursing Administration certification. The CNA, BC (Certified in Nursing Administration, Board Certified) is awarded by
the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Janet Lynch, RN, CEN, an emergency room staff nurse at Torresdale Campus, was the president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Emergency Nurses
Association (ENA) for 2004. In this role, she serves as a liaison to the National ENA, the PA State Council, as well as local
hospital Emergency Departments, local Emergency Medical Systems (EMS) and local members. The ENA supports continuing education,
addresses professional issues and serves as a resource for emergency nurses. Ms. Lynch has also fulfilled other various roles in the ENA, including Chapter Secretary (2002) Pennsylvania State Delegate
(2002, 2003, 2004) and is a member of the State Education Committee. She has also served as Vendor Chairperson (2002) and
is currently Auction Chairperson (2005) for Horizons, a statewide educational conference.

The Theory of Neonatal Trimodal Care and Adaptation in a poster session at the Pennsylvania Nurses Practice Showcase on October
22, 2004. The Showcase was held during the annual Pennsylvania Nurses' Association Summit in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Frankford Nurse Receives SePA AwardThis year, a Frankford Hospital Critical Care nurse, Cindy Rizzo, RN, BSN, CCRN, was the recipient of the prestigious SePA Excellence in Critical Care Practice Award. This award recognizes a critical care
nurse who embodies and exemplifies the principles of critical care nursing practice.

Marge Worner, RN, CNOR, was recently elected president of the Buxmont Chapter of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) for the
2004-2005 term. Some of Marge's duties as president include chairing the chapter's board meetings, planning their mini-Congress, as well as
organizing fund-raising and educational activities. After attending a leadership conference in 2004 at AORN headquarters in Denver, Colorado, Marge has set a personal goal to
promote her chapter's growth and development. Congratulations, Marge!

Cathy Markey, RN, BSN, CCRN, CEN, Nurse Staff Educator, presented "Traumatic Stress Syndrome" at 2004 TRENDS in Critical Care Nursing. This regional conference was held in October at the Adam's Mark Hotel. It was sponsored by the Southeastern Pennsylvania (SePA)
Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
