Alice V. Joseph, RN-BC, BSN, a staff nurse on One South at the Bucks County Campus, has been awarded Level III recognition.  Alice serves as a preceptor on her unit.  She presented posters on such topics as: care of a patient with chest tube, management of a patient with dry suction chest drainage, and TBE Atrium - Oasis dry suction chest drain.  In addition, she has reached out to the community by visiting a nursing home and rehab center, spending time visiting with the elderly residents to help provide support and spirit.

Barbara A. Gelenberg, RN, a staff nurse in the Emergency Room at the Frankford Campus, has been awarded Level I recognition.  Barbara serves as a preceptor for nurse externs for her unit.  She is also a Magnet Champion/nurse excellence champion who provided a spark to prepare and educate the staff on the road to becoming a Magnet Hospital.

Angeline Doherty RN, CCRN, a staff nurse in the ICU at the Torresdale Campus, has been awarded Level III recognition.  Angeline is a member of the VAP Committee, to which she contributes data collection and peer education.  She is also a member of the Ethics Committee, for which she reviews articles and helps with protocol revisions for hospital policy.  In addition, she is part of the Beacon Award Committee, the efforts of which resulted in Frankford Torresdale's ICU receiving the AACN Beacon Award.  Her contributions for the Beacon effort include researching information for application and creating an educational poster to encourage professional membership and certification.

Mary Ann Fenerty, RNC, a staff nurse on 2B, the Orthopedic Trauma unit at the Torresdale campus, has been awarded Level III recognition.  Mary Ann serves as a preceptor for RN staff and Nurse Externs for her unit.  Ms. Fenerty is a member of Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses and the Nurse Excellence Committee.  She also has a wound-care poster that was used at all three campuses and that covered protocol, documentation, stages of wounds, and wound-care Products.  In addition, Mary Ann volunteered for the Food Drive in Fall of 2006 and 2007, and was involved in our School Supply Drive for July 2007.

Leena Joseph, RNC, a staff RN on 2 West at the Bucks campus, has been awarded Level III recognition. She serves as a lead RN and preceptor for her unit. Ms. Joseph participates on the Performance Improvement Council and Wound-Care Committee of the Nursing Department. Ms. Joseph had assisted with Wound-Care Skills day, which provided an in-service on pressure-ulcer education. 

Denise Marie Serfass, RNC, a staff nurse on One South at the Bucks campus, has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms. Serfass designed poster boards to educate the staff about Advance Directives and Restraints. Denise is an active member of the Performance Improvement Council and of the Wound-Care Committee, for which she had participated in Basic Skills Day. She educated the nursing assistant staff on preventing pressure ulcers and on basic nursing-care expectations. Ms. Serfass serves as a nurse preceptor on her unit.

Kim Burgess RNC, MSN, a staff nurse on 2B - the Orthopedic Trauma Unit at the Torresdale campus - has been awarded Level IV recognition. She serves as a lead RN and a preceptor for her unit. Ms. Burgess participates in the Nursing Department Research Committee, for which she has assisted with the planning of Research Day. Ms. Burgess is also a member of the Staff Education Committee, for which she presents monthly topics on policies, procedures, and products to the unit staff.  Ms. Burgess teaches the Total Joint Class in which she educates patients and their families on pre-op and post-op procedures.

Dana Smith, RNC, a staff nurse on 2B - the Orthopedic Trauma Unit at Torresdale campus - has been awarded Level III recognition. Dana is the co-chair of the Resource and Professional Development Council, for which she participates in ad hoc projects. Ms. Smith has assisted with the Health Fair at Christ the King Church by providing information on summer safety. Ms. Smith has also created a poster board on Smoking Cessation, which is in the 2B family waiting room. Ms. Smith serves as a preceptor on her unit to nurse externs and nursing staff.

Megan Trinsey, RNC, BSN, a float nurse at the Torresdale Campus, has been awarded Level IV recognition. Ms. Trinsey serves as a lead RN and as a preceptor for her nursing colleagues. Ms. Trinsey is an active member of the Clinical Practice Information Management Committee, which maintains standards for nursing. As a member of the Wound-Care Committee, she participated in Basic Skills Day for the CNAs.  She presented education to the nursing assistant staff on prevention of pressure ulcers and on basic nursing care. 

Christy Butler, RN, BSN, CCRN, an ICU nurse at the Torresdale Campus, has been awarded Level I recognition.  Christy created a poster presentation for ICU staff on the implementation of a new device that will continuously measure SVO2.  In addition, she was also a part of the Beacon Award Committee, the efforts of which resulted in Frankford Torresdale's ICU receiving the AACN Beacon Award.

Melissa McComeskey, RN, BSN, a staff nurse on 3C Telemetry Unit at the Torresdale Campus, has been awarded Level III recognition.  Ms. McComeskey has done two poster presentations, one regarding the anatomy of the heart with emphasis on the coronary arteries and EKG changes that are significant in the cardiac patient and the other entitled "What is a pacemaker? Illustrating the purpose of function of pacemakers and ICDs."

Susan Shotzbarger, RNC, a staff nurse in the EPS/ TEE Lab at the Torresdale Campus, has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms. Shotzbarger is a member of the Coordinating Council, which integrates decisions, recommendations, and activities of the other shared governance councils. Ms. Shotzbarger is also a Nurse Excellence Champion for the EPS Department, which held a hospitalwide food drive in March 2007. In addition, she developed and initiated the patient, follow-up, callback system in the EPS Department for the purpose of improving patient satisfaction.

John Bates, RN, CCRN, a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Torresdale Campus, has received Level III recognition. Mr. Bates is a BCLS instructor who ensures the ICU staff is competent and certified in current BCLS instructions. He also created a poster on extending visiting hours in the ICU and how it benefits the patients as a support system and how it alleviates the fears of family and friends. Mr. Bates serves as a RN nurse preceptor for new orientees and nurse externs. Mr. Bates is an active member of the Coordinating Council, which oversees Shared Governance Councils.

Nancy Larkins, RN, MSN, CCRN, a staff nurse on the 3C Telemetry unit at Torresdale Campus, has been awarded Level V recognition. Ms. Larkins is active in the Nursing Department Research Committee and was a presenter at the Fall '06 Research Day. She is a presenter for the Med-Surg update, covering such topics as core measures, medication review, JCAHO safety standards, and orthopedic injuries. Ms. Larkins is on the Fall Task Force, which analyzes patient falls at Frankford hospitals. She serves as a lead RN and a preceptor for her unit. 

Laura Staudenmayer, RN-BC, BSN, a staff nurse on 2B - the Orthopedic Trauma Unit at Torresdale - has been awarded Level IV recognition. Ms. Staudenmayer is an active member of the Performance Improvement Council. She serves on The Nurse Excellence Committee, for which she assists in educating the community and with the food drive as well as collection of school supplies for underprivileged students in the community.  Laura serves as a preceptor to nurse externs and RNs on her unit.

Colleen Sagias, RNC, a staff RN on 4 East - the Telemetry Unit at the Frankford Campus - has received Level III recognition. Ms. Sagias is an active member of the Performance Improvement Council, for which she performs monthly audits to improve patient-care outcomes. As a member of the Wound-Care Committee, she participated in Basic Skills Day for the CNAs.  She presented education to the nursing-assistant staff on preventing pressure ulcers and on basic nursing care. Colleen serves her unit as a preceptor for new nursing staff.

Lisa D. Tunney-Woelk, RN, BSN, CCRN, an ICU staff RN at Bucks Campus, has received a Level IV recognition. Ms. Tunney-Woelk is a clinical preceptor for externs and RN staff.  She has been a lecturer for the Critical-Care Course, speaking on CHF and cardiomyopathy, and has conducted hospitalwide educational in-services on CHF and cardiomyopathy to critical-care areas of the hospital. Ms. Tunney-Woelk designed a Power Point presentation encouraging 5th grade students to consider nursing as a career choice. She also serves as a CPR instructor to Frankford Hospital staff.

 

 

Barbara Shoester RN, BSN, CCRN, an ICU staff RN at the Torresdale Campus, has received Level IV recognition.  Ms. Shoester has been an active presenter at the critical-care courses. She serves the staff by orienting new employees and participating in unit projects.  She is also involved in the Trauma Course, for which she provides a lecture on blood products.  In addition, she has also helped organize a hospitalwide food drive to benefit local organizations in our community. Ms. Shoester presented lectures on pancreatitis and aneurysm at the Critical-Care Course in April 2006.  Ms. Shoester serves as a preceptor for ICU RN staff.
