On September 15, 2000, Frankford Hospital – Torresdale officially dedicated its Emergency Room addition in a formal ribbon
cutting ceremony. The ceremony, which included comments from Philadelphia Managing Director Joseph Martz and Fire Commissioner
Harold Hairston, honored the Frankford Hospital Foundation for funding the $2.8 million project.
The expansion added 19 treatment rooms that occupy 7,500 square feet, which more than doubled the size and capacity of the
existing space. The 19 rooms, each outfitted for telemetry and maximum flexibility, are used interchangeably for the treatment
of Emergency Room patients or observation patients destined for admission. Since its opening in January 2000, the Emergency
Department has experienced an increase of 8.4 percent in patient activity.
Police Commissioner Harold Hairston took the podium to comment on the superior care provided by Frankford's Emergency Room
staff to patients in the community, in particular injured firefighters.
James Kauffman, Jr., Frankford Hospitals' Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Carl Gregory, President of the Frankford
Hospital Foundation, shared the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon dedicating the 19-room emergency department addition.
