Approved positions: Nine
The Frankford Hospital - Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Dermatology Residency Program is an AOA-accredited residency
offering nine (9) fully funded training positions. Applicants must be currently enrolled or have completed an AOA-approved
internship for consideration. The goal of our program is to develop compassionate osteopathic physicians who are excellent
clinical dermatologists. To achieve this goal, the program is structured to encourage personal growth, scientific discovery,
and enrichment of patient-care responsibilities.
Our program offers a unique combination of clinical as well as academic opportunities. Over the course of three years, residents
are exposed to a variety of clinical settings, including general, occupational, pediatric, and cosmetic dermatology. In addition,
residents receive training in the various aspects of dermatologic surgery, including Mohs’ micrographic surgery. Moreover,
residents acquire a mastery of dermatopathology as well, through structured didactics and hands-on training. Clinical responsibilities
are balanced by a strong emphasis on academics. Regularly assigned textbook readings and journal clubs ensure that our residents
have the fundamental basic science as well as current therapeutic knowledge to manage common and rare dermatologic conditions.
Our residents also take part in mentor-sponsored research projects, and are encouraged to publish original articles during
their training. Our residents have published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives in Dermatology, and Cutis. Furthermore, our location in the greater Philadelphia area affords residents the opportunity to collaborate with a variety
of other dermatology programs, taking part in Grand Rounds and patient discussion on a regular basis.
Perhaps the greatest strength of this program is a faculty dedicated to patient care, teaching, research, and intellectual
curiosity, which provides the infrastructure for the resident learning experience. Each resident is expected to be dedicated
to patient care, responsive to guidance, and self-motivated. Residents must invest the time and effort necessary to acquire
the skills necessary to complete the program.
