John A. Heim, MD, a board-certified thoracic surgeon, serves as Director of Frankford’s Department of Surgery and as Section
Head of the Division of Thoracic Surgery. His clinical interests include surgical treatment of thoracic malignancies and benign disease of the chest. He performs a wide variety of procedures, including:
• video-assisted thoracic surgery for dorsal sympathectomy resulting form upper-extremity reflex sympathetic dystrophy;
• pacemaker implantation;
• outpatient mediastinoscopy;
• surgical correction of spontaneous pneumothorax.
Dr. Heim is a graduate of Ramapo College of New Jersey (Bachelor of Science Degree) and of the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey (New Jersey Medical School). He completed his surgical internship and residency at Hartford Hospital, University of Connecticut, where he served as the
chief resident of general surgery. Dr. Heim completed a fellowship in thoracic surgery at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and a residency
in cardiothoracic surgery at Rush-Presbyterian - St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Camden County Medical Society, and the Medical Society of New Jersey.
Prior to joining Frankford’s staff, Dr. Heim practiced cardiothoracic surgery for more than ten years at Virtua Health System
and Our Lady of Lourdes in New Jersey.
