Terms for radiosurgery

Radiosurgery is variously referred to as SRS (stereotactic radiosurgery) or SBRT (stereotactic body/brain radiotherapy).  The approach, the technology, and the concept are the same in either case.  Because the term SRS has been used longer and because radiosurgery has seen most of its use to date with brain tumors, SRS is a term sometimes used to mean radiosurgery to the brain. Radiosurgery is also referred to as SRS or SBRT.
SBRT is a newer term that helps to reinforce the understanding that radiosurgery can be used anywhere in the body and, if necessary, applied over more than one treatment session.  Conditions and sites for which specialists are using radiosurgery are expanding, and now include lung cancers, vascular abnormalities, and a list of other applications.
