Remembering Frankford Hospitals’ Cancer Patients – Our “Bricks of Strength”
While planning the Charity Ball this past summer, the Charity Ball Committee decided to pursue an endeavor that would result
in a timeless, physical remembrance of Frankford Hospitals’ cancer patients. The result of this pursuit is the beautiful Commemorative
Quilt pictured above. The colorful quilt, designed in a pattern called “Bricks of Strength,” was handcrafted by Life Quilt,
Inc., a California-based company specializing in creating commemorative quilts from pieces of clothing and other fabrics that
hold sentimental meaning.
Frankford’s Commemorative Quilt, measuring 45 inches wide by 64 inches long, was sewn using pieces of 40 articles of clothing
belonging to our Cancer Center patients. Patients’ family members and friends anxiously donated their loved one’s “favorite
sweater,” “baseball cap worn during chemotherapy treatment,” “comfortable T-shirt”, “lucky bandanna,” etc. With each garment
that was donated came an endearing memory of the person to whom it belonged. These stories truly help make each swatch of
fabric become a symbolic “brick of strength.” Officially unveiled this evening, the Commemorative Quilt will be permanently
preserved and displayed in a visible location in the Cancer Center at Frankford Hospital – Torresdale.
We would like to thank the Hospital’s Senior Management Team who personally funded the purchase of the Commemorative Quilt.
Your gift is sure to be a timeless one. Much appreciation is also extended to our patients, their families and friends for
donating items with such deep sentimental value. These fabrics from your lives have helped create a cherished piece of artwork.
