Frankford Hospitals’ Golf Classic
Over the past two years, Frankford Hospitals’ annual Golf Classic has raised more than $360,000 for the benefit of the Cancer
Center at Frankford Hospital. With M & T Bank as its platinum sponsor, the event was held on both May 19, 2003 and May 24,
2004 at the Torresdale – Frankford Country Club. Each year, the eagerly anticipated outing features an exciting day spent
on the greens followed by a formal dinner and golf contest awards gala.
In 2003, nearly 150 golfers participated in the tournament, raising $136,943. These funds were used to assist Frankford’s
Radiation Oncology Department in purchasing and implementing a portal imaging system that provides digital images of all aspects
of a patient’s radiation treatment. This system has served to enhance patient care by providing physicians immediate access
to both data and images in a patient’s electronic chart.
The generous support of Frankford’s Golf Classic grew in 2004. More than 160 golfers participated in the event which raised
more than $230,000, making it Frankford’s most successful Golf Classic to date. Plans are being developed to utilize these
proceeds toward the renovation and structural enhancement of the Cancer Resource Center at Frankford Hospital – Torresdale.
The Center’s “facelift” will include the expansion of the existing resource library to include a wider variety of cancer-related
literature as well as the addition of a CD-ROM video library.
New computer terminals will also be installed within individual cubicles, allowing patients privacy when researching information
regarding their condition and treatment. The renovation also include plans for the reconfiguration of the existing space to
maximize patient comfort and privacy as they schedule tests and make decisions about their individual treatment plans.
